Motherhood (As Explained by A Daughter)

I love you

and you, and you, and all of

you people out there: desperate

for Earthly loving, solid

ground beneath your boots.

But light cannot stay; This love:

it must brave us, but I let behind

a rabbit. Teach your children

to chase and play. Remember me,

and let it go.

Bluegrass. Stretch yourself

out across this great place,

and keep on. Your planet

is green, and good. Scatter

kidney beans on the grasses

like droppings when you go

amongst them, against the wind,

golden and dogged in the August light

and cool air to your thighs.

To remember is to take. You

were a sip, momentary grace.
