Lookbook: School Bags

by Jules Hasler

Although many college campuses are filled with the stereotypical backpack, the fashion culture of New York City results in something a little different. Tote bags, shoulder bags, cross-body bags, and more all keep up with the style while managing to carry the endless supplies a student needs. I took it upon myself to randomly select 11 individuals across the period of a week and photograph their preferred vessel of knowledge. Not only did this process combat my stress of talking to strangers, but it also gave me inspiration for my next bag purchase. Without further ado, here are the various school bags of NYC.

The Leather Bag

Durable, fashionable, and more likely to protect its contents from unpredictable weather, the leather bag is a classic NYC staple that can pull together any outfit. Marked by brand names or fun textures, leather screams NYC student.

The Tote Bag

Classic, easy, and a good mode of self-expression. Need I say more?

The Satchel

For those of us who just need to bring everything and the kitchen sink with us to class, the satchel is a great option—bonus points if it’s cross-body.

The Classic Backpack

We are still students, after all. The backpack will never go out of style or decrease in functionality, so props to those that find a way to make it fashionable. That wear-and-tear is loud.
