REFLECTION | Manahil Zafar
“Welcome Week at NYUDC was a roller coaster. The good kind. I found myself in another new city, fearful and panicked, wondering whether I would ever really adjust. But I did. And it was mostly because of the countless Welcome Week events that forced me out into DC, exploring and navigating and marveling. I found myself loving this city, despite the ridiculously early restaurant closing times. Welcome Week brought me closer to those who were new to DC, quite like myself, and it showed me that with a little push, you can call anywhere home.”

REFLECTION | Jay Kang
“I’m sure that like most of the students arriving in NYUDC for the first time, I was worried about how we would make the most out of our time. How would we earn those As in classes, while expanding our network to gain a foothold in desired job sectors? How would we keep up with our internship, while trying to involve ourselves in as many events as possible? I was so nervous, wracking my brain over my fears of failing to capitalize on NYUDC, that I completely forgot the point of why NYUDC is a unique experience. Welcome Week gave me one week, seven days, to remind myself that there are others like me; full of hopes and expectations, we came here to connect with each other and realize that there is a passionate, human face behind the cold exterior of DC, that behind the politics are a group of people that are inspired to make this world better than they found it. Reminding myself that, through the numerous trips and connections that I enjoyed during Welcome Week, helped reassure me that I wasn’t just prepared for DC; I was ready to fit right in.”

HUMANS OF NYU WASHINGTON, DC | Eric He
“I really took the initiative to get in shape during my time in D.C, from eating healthier to going to Balance Gym three times a week. At first I was worried about not having a meal plan, but it actually helped me start making my own meals. My roommate, Danny Zheng and I tried meal-prepping. It didn’t really work out but I made sure to stay committed to a balanced eating schedule. If I get hungry between meals, I snack on carrots, almonds or berries while working on assignments. The reading room is a good place because of the sunlight it gets even if it is too cold to go outside. On nicer days, I find myself jogging a lot around the block or to the park; it is very stress relieving. Since we don’t have a traditional campus, it’s easy to just stay in the entire day so my advice to future NYU DC students is to definitely go outside and enjoy some fresh air.”
