Loneliness
I often feel alone
even if
I’m surrounded by friends
I know that
None of them really care about me
You can’t convince me that
people still think of me
When I’m not around
It’s a fact that
the energy I put in isn’t returned
and it’s not true that
if I disappeared
people would be affected
I know I have friends
but
I often feel alone

Sometimes all you need is a change in perspective. It’s easy to feel like you’re not the priority and that people don’t care, but just know there’s a difference between being alone and being lonely — and that’s having people who care about you. I read this as a mantra every morning over winter break, and it can help force the perspective change you might need.
