The NYU Dean for Science and the Department of Biology are sponsoring an Ada Lovelace Day celebration. Ada Lovelace, a 19th century English mathematician and writer, is widely considered to be the first computer programmer. Ada Lovelace Day aims to raise the profile of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by sharing their stories.
The event will feature early-career women from a variety of STEM fields sharing how they came to their current career paths and who inspired them along the way, an interactive panel discussion where women from all levels in their career will answer audience questions about issues specific to women in STEM, networking opportunities, and more. Speakers include Dr. Rumi Chunara, Assistant Professor of Computer Science & Engineering, and Global Institute of Public Health at NYU, Dr. Tuuli Lappalainen, junior investigator and core member at the New York Genome Center and Assistant Professor at Columbia University, Dr. Jin Montclare, Associate Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at NYU and designer of educational chemistry apps for students K-12, and Dr. Aparna Kumar, data scientist at the Wall Street Journal.
