Olivia Krivitsky (NYU Gallatin) | Bellevue Hospital – Program for Survivors of Torture (PSOT)| NYC, United States
I wanted to continue to tell you guys about my summer work. As I continue my internship with Dr. Keller, the importance of teamwork and collaboration is even more evident. Each member of the team plays a unique and key role in helping the individuals they work with. All the team members of the Program for Survivors of Torture demonstrate an incredible understanding, commitment, and passion for the work that they do and that greatly translates into the care and services provided for patients. An excellent synergy that I too hope to emulate. They truly go above and beyond for every patient. At the end of the day, it is a team, not an individual alone that makes the difference. Many patients who Dr.Keller treats have experienced FGM, domestic violence, torture, and more. As a future physician, I feel very passionately about gaining a toolset to help and advocate for my patients and feel through observing the team at the Program for Survivors of Torture, I am in awe of the amazing world they do and am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. I have been first-hand able to see what it means to inspire individuals and simply be there for them. I am currently helping to locate a patient’s children with whom she lost contact during her trip to the United States. Although a difficult challenge, I am committed to helping in every capacity possible to work toward this family reunification.
I look forward to my continued work with Dr. Keller and the team at the Program for Survivors of Torture!
