I believe the two songs United In Grief by Kendrick Lamar and Is This Love by Bob Marley are two songs that reflect accurately my time spent at the coalition. I think United In Grief tells a story of people who have witnessed so much so soon and so fast and have banded together to really ground and try to work on themselves. But in the same way, all the emotions that people have been ignoring really stay present and can affect the relationships everyone has with each other. This comes out specifically in the heavy drums that Lamar uses to demonstrate the radically fast-moving style of life in Newark. I know this may be an unorthodox perspective, but truly this is my perspective.
Is this Love to me seem like the in-between moments that come when things are peaceful within the coalition? When things are harmonious and everyone is at work servicing the community. I believe the song relates to the coalition because many of the volunteers here are not accustomed to well working and committed community dedicated to loving and protecting others.
