Working at the coalition brings about a mix of feelings for me. This is not my first week at the coalition and I have many relationships with the people who work here. Our relationships are generally great, as each of us has a lot of respect for the other. There are some issues though that have been pervasive. The biggest one is in regard to the language barrier that I experience with the community here. Although I am of Spanish descent, this poses some challenges to me in regards to truly connecting to the community. This can make me feel anxious, but what makes me feel confident is definitely filling water jugs and talking to my friends with the coalition. It becomes a little home for me.
It would be right for me to step forward and take more responsibility as much as possible, as long as I know what I am doing. The coalition seems to occasionally suffer a lack of responsible leadership at times. Although Anthony Diaz is always present in some capacity, the people who can match him in age and capability occasionally ween. I hope this gets better as the coalition expands and summer expands.
