My time spent with the coalition has always been changing and effervescent. Being that I have worked with the coalition for more than ten weeks, time bleeds for me, but what I will say is that these past few months have been intense. I say this because with the advent of the coalition becoming a new NGO within Newark, the struggles to acquire non-expired food and to become a food depot, whilst dedicating more time to the farm and building the greenhouse there brings up many stressors. It is quite impossible to balance everything whilst keeping the goal in line if there isn’t a balance and foundation set up outside of a hierarchical structure. This leads me to ask certain questions:
- Are hierarchal structures always doomed to failure due to individuals dealing with immense stress?
- Is healing or working to heal communities impossible if you have not done internal work yourself to heal?
- What are the proper ways to air out and heal communities and people who have internal grievances?
- Is it possible to survive as an organization when local and federal governments are actively looking to stifle the work that you are doing?
