Submissions for the Fall 2024 edition are now open! Send us your work here by Nov. 20th!

STE(A)M encompasses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, meaning the STE(A)M Zine will accept submissions in just about any disciplinary category! STE(A)M as an intellectual perspective asks us to approach our ways of thinking about the world in a fluid, dynamic, cross-pollinating manner.

This can take any number of forms! A STE(A)M piece could be a piece of tech-driven art, coding, data visualization, tinker-crafts, sociological research, AI poetry, fiction about food as technology, or anything else you come up with! Nearly anything can be thought of scientifically, artistically, technologically, and mathematically.

We’d love to speak with you about your proposals for projects! If you’re interested in finding a partner or team to work on your project with, stop by the residency, and we can link you up with other students.

Feel free to contact gallatinsteamzine-group@nyu.edu with any questions, or reach out to us on Instagram @nyusteamzine!

Our Fall 2024 Theme: Tomorrow Happened Yesterday

Interrupt the paralysis of the present with an investigation into our past and its entanglement with our future. Sit with nostalgia and the finality of the Anthropocene; reflect on mirrored generational patterns and pitfalls; and define temporality through the vestiges of our past and the artifacts of the future. This semester, we’re racing against the clock – because Tomorrow Happened Yesterday.

About Submitting to STE(A)M Zine

STE(A)M is an educational perspective that asks us to disrupt our tendency to isolate disciplines and instead approach our world more fluidly.
The type of work that can be submitted should be focused on any of the subjects mentioned above. It can take the form of a tech-driven art piece, data visualization, code, scientific research, etc. — we are open to any ideas that you have! The submission can be an individual piece or a group project. The submission can also be a proposal for a project that you will be working on this semester. It does not need to be a finished project at this time.

Submissions for the Fall 2024 edition are due November 20th. Submit your work here! If you have any questions or get involved, feel free to email us.

Editor in Chief

Hi! I’m Kahini, a senior at Gallatin studying public health, medical anthropology, and the life sciences. My concentration is based on understanding how societies broadly discuss and combat communicable and non-communicable disease. In the city, I love to try out new cafes. I’m always ordering a vanilla latte, and I’m still trying to find the best one! My favorite books are The Guest List by Lucy Foley and Pachinko by Min Jin Lee.

Emily Delp (Any Pronouns)

Director of Communications

Hi! My name is Emily, I’m a sophomore concentrating in Land use change and Environmental Equality. I joined STE(A)M Zine as a freshman, and I love to see the creativity of the members and contributors in our club! When I’m not editing for STEAM Zine, I love to go on late night walks with my friends or watch Spiderman into the Spiderverse on repeat!

Hey, my name is Abby. I’m a sophomore in Gallatin with an as yet undefined concentration at the intersection of science, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and visual art. I joined STE(A)M Zine in my freshman year and I love seeing each semester’s unique approach to the relationship between the sciences and the arts. In my free time I enjoy watching movies and TV shows, baking, making art, reading, and listening to music. My favorites are always changing but some of my current top artists are The Bug Club and Sidney Gish.

Maxinne Santos (she/they)

Hello! I’m Maxinne, a junior at Gallatin studying history, specifically how colonialism still affects us from policy to popular culture. I joined STE(A)M Zine this year because I love making zines and wanted to expand my knowledge outside the humanities. My top Spotify artist is IVE and I’m currently watching The Boys and Abbott Elementary!

Hi! I’m Hazel, a junior at Gallatin studying creative writing and literature, thinking about the complexities of storytelling. In my free time I enjoy binge watching TV shows, white knuckling my way through writers’ block, reading, listening to music, and watching women’s soccer (Gotham FC and Arsenal WFC). I am currently trying to read every Hercule Poirot book before the end of 2024. Some of my favorite movies include Jurassic Park, Knives Out, and Everything Everywhere All At Once.
