The classrooms at School of the Earth provide a transparent, bright and intuitive place for students to engage with each other and their professors. Glass walls and doors provide a sense of openness for students both in class as well as letting in light, reducing or eliminating the need for electric lighting. Classroom chairs swivel to face any direction and charging units are intuitively placed at the center of each table in order to charge student’s personal devices. At Gallatin, we always work to share the important work that we are all doing with one another, the glass classroom makes that communication seamless, and accessible.
- Glass Walls
The walls of the classroom will be made of glass. This is to the benefit of the students inside and outside of the classroom. Students in the classroom will feel less claustrophobic, and less contained. The glass walls of the classroom egg will allow sunlight to pour into the room, and increase the efficiency of the building’s temperature regulation and lighting. Aside from resource efficiency and in-class experience, the glass exterior of the classroom allows other students, staff and visitors to feel more a part of each other’s studies, causes and discussions. It will also provide a direct connection to the outside world of nature so that the educational experience is not fully contained in an indoor place.
- Smart Projection
There will be a touchscreen projected at the front of the room. Information of all kinds, videos and class slides can be displayed and interacted with by professors and students. Additionally, professors will be able to allow students to share their screen with the class to project their work and notes, straight from their personal devices.
- Collaborate Tables
Each classroom will have two large communal tables for in-class work space where students can take notes, collaborate and innovate. The tables will use the classroom space efficiently and create open lines of communication between students, more so than individual desks.
- Accessible Electronic Charging
There will be a unit for charging electronics at the center of the student classroom tables. The unit allows students to charge computers, phones, cameras and other technology that aid and enrich their classroom experience. Additionally,
