Description of Internship: New York Film Music Foundation Inc (“NYFMF”) is a tax-exempt organization that aims to help recording artists and filmmakers of all genres achieve their dreams. Programming includes listening sessions for amateurs and professionals to experience new forms of music as well networking events, workshops, and panel discussions to educate the public about modern production and recording techniques.
In the Fall of 2018, after a period of creative brainstorming, “Generation Z” student filmmakers at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study produced an informational video showcasing talent at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music (a division of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts). The video emphasized concerns that student artists face after graduating, the importance of art to a community’s vitality, and how NYFMF could play a positive role in these types of issues. Another student at the NYU College of Arts and Sciences designed a logo for the organization.
This year’s internship(s) will focus on building on these students’ work with respect to crowdfunding, municipal opportunities, and grants. The first task will be to edit raw high quality footage in connection with the creative output from last year. The second task will be to incorporate that footage into supplemental materials for the New York City Council, New York City Economic Development Corporation, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, Department of Cultural Affairs, and New York State Assembly. NYFMF has developed a technology to map the various arts nonprofits in New York State, which appear in two and three dimensions on the organization’s website. Grant writing in the form of proposals to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), and New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)—as well as communication with members of local government bodies and their staffs—could also form a part of this internship.
Other tasks may include: “B-roll” or behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage Outreach to philanthropic organizations Real estate research Info graphics and animations Anyone with an interest in these topics should send a CV and brief cover letter to: firstname.lastname@example.org. The organization has achieved 501(c)(3) status with its mission of supporting mainstream but non-commercial artists, has registered with the New York State Attorney General’s Charities Bureau, and is in the process of completing the proper filings with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for exemption from corporate franchise taxes and state and local sales and use tax.
