Gallatin Global Faculty Symposium at NYU Prague

By Mehmet Darakçıoğlu

This year we have convened the ninth iteration of the Gallatin Global Faculty Symposium at NYU Prague on March 18-20, 2024. An annual event brings faculty from Gallatin and NYU’s global academic centers to exchange ideas and foster research and curricular collaborations. This year’s symposium theme was Memory, History, and Place. Ali Mirsepassi served as the faculty convenor of the symposium, and 11 faculty members from Gallatin and NYU Prague discussed issues related to the symposium theme weaving the rich history of Prague into the conversations. While discussing the significance of memoirs for understanding history, they also shared pedagogies about how to teach about memory in relation to place/space in the classroom. Participants visited sites relevant to the symposium theme such as the Vitkov Memorial and the Jewish Cemetery in Prague.
