Virtual labs allow you to run software and simulations through a cloud-based interface.
Virtual labs are usually free for students and provide access to the latest in industry-standard software and realistic simulations.
NYU ITS runs physical labs and the Virtual Computer Lab, which licenses major software and makes it accessible to all current NYU students via a web interface. Additionally, there are other web-based virtual labs dedicated to scientific simulations.
Stable internet access is a must. For NYU’s Virtual Computer Lab, you will also need a Citrix plugin to connect to the system.
- NYU Virtual Computer Lab (free for current students): Run by ITS, the Virtual Computer Lab (VCL) provides access to academic software through a web browser and an Internet connection. Many of the more advanced and expensive proprietary software mentioned above is available remotely to students through the Virtual Computer Lab. All degree seeking NYU students with active NYU email accounts have access to the VCL; students can find the VCL channel on the Academics tab of NYU Home. The available software is listed here and robust support documentation can be found here.
