Transition from NYU Classes to NYU Brightspace
In Fall 2021, NYU will complete the transition from our former learning management system, NYU Classes, to our new system, NYU Brightspace. Everyone in Arts & Sciences must move their courses to NYU Brightspace for Fall 2021. There will be no exceptions.
Here are some of the features in Brightspace we think you’ll love:
- Improved Discussions: Features include anonymous posting, rating and upvoting posts, and individual journal assignments.
- Paperless grading: Comment on and mark up student submissions within the grading interface of Brightspace Assignments. No downloading necessary!
- Video/Audio Feedback: Provide audio and/or video feedback in addition to written comments on Assignments.
- Re-use of Materials: Quickly copy course materials and complete courses from one semester to the next and adjust assignment dates automatically with the Manage Dates tool.
Our office is here to support your move. We encourage you to start early to make sure all of your materials are in place for Fall 2021.
Here’s what you can do to get ready:

Here’s how we’re doing in Arts & Sciences on the move to Brightspace:
FYI: New Classroom Tech for In-person Instruction
Instructors who have not taught in person since March 2020 will find new equipment in place for computer projection, recording, and bringing in remote attendees. In most general assignment classrooms, Zoom Boards will be used for ALL of these functions and instructors will need to bring their own laptops to use them.
1. Find your classroom:
- Search for your classroom in the Campus Media directory
- If you can’t find your classroom in the directory, email fas-edtech-group@nyu.edu for help.
2. Learn to use the new classroom tech for presentations and recording:
- Bookmark this page for instructional tips, video tutorials, and step-by-step PDF instructions you can download for teaching in NYU Zoom classrooms
- FAS Ed Tech will be doing an all day, drop in, hands-on practice session using the new classroom tech on Friday, August 27, 9 am – 5 pm in 410 Silver.
