Everyone at NYU is invited to two exciting events being held in conjunction with the annual Foundations of Research Computing (FORC) Camp, scheduled for its third iteration Aug. 26-28.
Keynote: August 26, 3:15 pm Registration
The first is the FORC Keynote, given this year by Kasia Chmielinski, on the timely topic “Human Responsibility in the Age of AI”. Kasia Chmielinski is a Senior Advisor on Data & AI at the United Nations and the Executive Director of the Data Nutrition Project, an initiative that builds tools to mitigate bias in artificial intelligence. They began their career as a product manager building software and AI tools at organizations such as Google, the MIT Media Lab, the US Digital Service (now DOGE) and McKinsey & Company. Kasia is also currently an affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard University. Complete information is here.
FORC Fair: August 27, 3-4:30 pm REGISTRATION
The second is the FORC Fair, a pilot event to be held in the newly launched SPARK Lab @ Digital Studio on the fifth floor of Bobst.
Participants will find lots of exciting opportunities:
- Tour the new space
- Sign up for class offerings in R, Python, and more
- Get support for using AI in research from the SPARK Lab @ the Digital Studio
- Get inspired by projects using features such as GIS Mapping, Data Visualization, and Open Data Sets
- Data Project Matchup Station: Connecting students with data science skills with research projects that need their expertise.
