el taller @ KJCC invites submissions of substantially complete dissertation chapters from graduate students to present in the Graduate Showcase session at our 2023 Summer Institute. We welcome all submissions of work relating to the arts, literatures, cultures, and histories of the Iberian Peninsula with no limits regarding periodization or language choice. The Graduate Showcase is a regular component of our annual summer program and is an excellent opportunity for graduate students to present their research and receive feedback from senior scholars in their fields.
The showcase will feature the work of four graduate students, each of whom will pre-circulate their works-in-progress ahead of time (either to all attendees or to the respondents alone) and offer a brief 7-minute presentation contextualizing their work on the day of the event. Following each presentation, two New York-area faculty respondents, uniquely selected based on the paper’s subject, will provide commentary before opening up the discussion to a supportive and engaged Q&A with the el taller community.
While the session will be held virtually, our hope is that participants in the Graduate Showcase will be able to attend the in-person portions of the Summer Institute. With this in mind, and due to the nature of el taller as a non-hierarchical intellectual community within the Interdoctoral University Consortium, proposals from graduate students enrolled in programs belonging to the Consortium will be given priority.
Please submit your abstract (250 words) and presentation title using this google form. The deadline to submit abstracts is April 20th and acceptances will be announced by May 1st. Selected participants will be expected to pre-circulate their papers to [at least] their designated respondents by May 20th. Papers will be pre-circulated to all Summer Institute registrants only with written permission from the authors.
