Week 4: Interactive Story Update —— Yunhao Ye (Edmund)

This is the primary template of our decision page. The x,y,z are argument in our function, we can easily change the texts of the decision by changing the input of the function. And clicking on those boxes will lead you to the new page.

This is how we try to combine the letters together to make it looks like a picture. But it does not seem like a good choice to do it on the computer. So we think we should draw on our own.

And this what we got on the paper.

Week 4: Project Report —— Yunhao Ye (Edmund)

We have made an clearer outline for our story and we also have the mind map of it. It may need a little modification, but it is complete and good enough for us to design the pictures of different scenes.

As for the coding part, we want to firstly work on the code of different scenes and then combine all these scenes in a sequence with some universal functions we will use.

We have already completed the choosing system, which means that your decision will lead the place you go. You need to click on the block of your favorite answer and then the website will take you to a new place.

Another function we have achieved is that when you click on an object which can give you clues, the picture of it will be fullscreen with a description under it. But one thing we have not decided yet is that how to make sure the player have already found all the clues in the scene. We may provide hint when you are going to the next scene while you do not find all the clues in current scene.

Since our story has two main characters and two main lines. A big challenge for us is to combine two choices from two lines together. Since the ending part of our story will be influenced by both of two characters. And we have not yet come out with a good way to get choices from two different scenes and then go to the new scenes depending on both of them.

Week 4: Project 2 Outline —— Yunhao Ye(Edmund)

Story Idea:

The main idea of our project is inspired by a video I viewed. It is an animation while all the elements in it are not drawn, instead, they are written in Chinese. So we want to create a similar comic which is based on letter-made characters and items. The structure of the comic will be simple and abstract to highlight interaction and storytelling.

Also, we want it to be an interactive project. We want to use a branching structure and have more than 4 endings based on users’ choices. Personally, I want there only to be two main characters, and the story of them will intersect with each as at last few scenes. And I want the ending to be not so clear instead bit of open-ending.

Brief Outline:

  1. Using “letters” to create character and items.
  2. There will be interaction when users deciding character’s movements in the comics.
  3. Ending of the story will change based on the user’s own choices and hopefully open-ending.
  4. The story has two main lines and will intersect with each other in the end.
