Allies for Gender Equity in STEM Workshops

October 10 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

According to the NSF, women only make up 39% of STEM tenured and tenure-track faculty in U.S. academic institutions, despite the increasing number of women receiving STEM PhDs over the past several decades. Promoting gender equity in STEM not only empowers women and non-binary faculty to excel professionally but also fosters diversity and innovation in academic environments. However, promoting gender equity requires effort from everyone, especially men, who make up a majority of STEM faculty.

We have partnered with Dr. Roger Green and Dr. Canan Bilen-Green of North Dakota State University, who have developed extensive programming to support gender equity in STEM departments, to facilitate the “Allies for Gender Equity in STEM Workshops” for NYU faculty.

These interactive workshops will explore workplace gender inequities experienced by female-identifying and non-binary faculty, often imposed by primarily male-identifying colleagues, and will empower all participants with tools to promote gender equity at NYU.

Each workshop is two and a half hours long and identical in content. The workshops will take place on October 10th and 11th from 9:00 am – 11:30 am at Washington Square and on October 10th from 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm at Tandon. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. These sessions will give faculty a chance to understand the context of gender inequity in academia and at NYU, develop concepts, vocabulary, actions, and practical skills to promote gender equity through scenario-based practice.

We implore all faculty – regardless of gender- to please attend one of these sessions so that we can improve the NYU academic community for everyone. Please RSVP to one of the workshops to confirm your attendance.
