Step 1
For your blog post, post about one of the projects that you critiqued. Please summarize what the project is and what your feedback was for improving the project. What did you think was interesting about this project’s concept? How do you think the project is creating –or could create– a meaningful experience that fosters the exploration of how we interact with technology?
Though because our project suddenly didn’t work well just before the recitation, we spent little time trying others’ work. And I especially remember the project called Connection Kira and Siyuan made. When one person put one hand on the device, there would be slight music and visual effect, and when two people are having physical contact with each other, the visual effect would be strong. Such a contrast between two different stage is pretty intriguing. Through my perspective, their project is like a machine to boost two people to have physical contact with each other, promoting the communications. I like their idea which has great difference with our “video game” product, and btw, such interactive installation is a good tool to pair couples hhhh.
However, there remains something to be improved in their project. I know how to react to their project because we talked about their concept before, but other people may know little about what to respond to the instructions in order to trigger the different effect. Therefore, they need to figure out a more clear indication that could inform people what is their next step, though keeping the indirect way. Improving visual effect is able to make the project more easy and explanatory. Also, they need to ensure safety issues of the high-five because of the IMA lab rules. Because of the COVID, our final presentation is even harder, hhh.
Step 2
From your notes, write down any feedback that you received during the user testing of your project. According to the people who participated in your user test, what was the most and least successful part of your project—Do you agree or disagree with this? How did this feedback influence your project? In the event that you did not make any changes, please explain why you didn’t incorporate the feedback?
About our project Fruit Ninja, there are also many problems need to fix. First of all, because we need to limit our communication with the tester as much as possible and allow the participant to try and figure out, some of them could not get where to put the garbage bin after picking it up. In order to improve such problem, we could add a short animation in the beginning of our program with the video section we just learned in class. In this way, the instructions of our game could be more clear and organized. Secondly, our photo-resistor is not sensitive enough, sometimes the cubes no the screen didn’t change with different bins picked up. We definitely need to remeasure and figure out the most suitable values due to different lightness, or we could add another light to control the value the sensors detected. Last but not least, our position of bins and moving board could be inverted to avoid hand shadow, which affects the accuracy of the light sensor. Moving the bin could also be more convenient when it is closer in this way.
Though there are many things we need to improve later, we are glad that many classmates found the background picture changed from gray city to green forest, which gave them a big surprise. We made a right edition after hearing assistant’s advise because such change of background gave the participants more achievements than simple points.
