We are pleased to share that the research authored by Professors Maurizio Porfiri, Pietro De Lellis, and Manuel Ruiz Marín on modeling climate-change-related migratory patterns on the example of Bangladesh has been featured on the cover of April 2021 issue of Earth’s Future!
The cover image was created by our laboratory manager, Anna Sawulska, and Prof. Porfiri.
Sea level rise could have catastrophic consequences worldwide. In their article (e2020EF001931), Pietro De Lellis, Manuel Ruiz Marin, and Maurizio Porfiri report a mathematical model to predict when, how, and where people could migrate under environmental change.
Applied to internal migration in Bangladesh, the model predicts that over 800 thousand people will be impacted by sea level rise by 2050, triggering cascading effects in migration patterns throughout the entire country.
