Laboratory

General laboratory area

The main laboratory is located in the newly-completed space on the 12th floor of NYU’s Center for Urban Science and Progress at 370 Jay Street. This state-of-the-art facility houses our experimental research activities on assistive technologies, human behavior, rehabilitation, and soft electroactive materials.

Workshop, live fish, and fluid mechanics/vibrations areas

The workshop area holds various tools for mechanical and electrical fabrication. The animal facility houses several holding tanks for freshwater fish along with instrumented tanks for behavioral testing. A dedicated area is used for prototyping and testing of miniature underwater robots. A separate room is used for vibration experiments and mechanical testing. Additional space outside the main laboratory area is available for fluid mechanics and material characterization experiments in the Center of Mechanics of Multifunctional Materials.

Key facilities

The main laboratory area holds the majority of the experimental setups, including optical tables, particle image velocimetry systems, and various setups for mechanical and electrical testing of smart materials and composites – some of these facilities are shared with the Center of Mechanics of Multifunctional Materials.
