Ionic polymer metal composites (IPMCs) are novel electroactive materials that can be used as actuators in soft robotics and biomedical devices. Despite the considerable interest of the research and engineering community on IPMCs, the physics underlying their actuation is still unclear. The new work by our postdoc Agnieszka Truszkowska and Professor Maurizio Porfiri, “Molecular dynamics of ionic polymer metal composites”, tackles this problem from a molecular dynamics perspective, the first of this kind in the IPMCs’ community. The work has been featured on the cover of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical & Engineering Sciences, special issue on Progress in Mesoscale Methods for Fluid Dynamics Simulation.
