Advances and perspectives in non-smooth dynamics and applications

Switching systems are widespread in nature and engineering applications. Research on these systems has come a long way in the last decades, but there are still many open questions that ought to be addressed.

In their new paper that introduces the Special Issue of Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science on Non-Smooth Dynamics, Igor Belykh (Georgia State University), Rachel Kuske (Georgia Institute of Technology), our own Maurizio Porfiri (NYU), and David J. W. Simpson (Massey University) discuss the last advances in the study of switching systems, describe the advances offered by the works collected in the Special Issue, and provide their perspective of important open questions and new research directions.
