Advanced Certificate in Public Health Disaster Science, Policy and Practice (School of Global Public Health)
The Advanced Certificate in Public Health Disaster Science, Policy and Practice offers online and in-person options for students interested in a multi-disciplinary approach to the scholarship, policies, and practices associated with preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from public health disasters and complex emergencies. The Certificate requires a minimum of five courses and 15 credits. The advanced certificate is open to all professionals in public health or related disciplines as a stand-alone certificate. Current NYU students can complete the program in conjunction with the GPH Master of Public Health (MPH) or MS in Bioethics degree.
Master of Arts (Gallatin School of Individualized Study)
Gallatin’s Master of Arts program offers each student an opportunity to explore his or her unique interests. Working closely with a faculty adviser, the student creates an individualized, interdisciplinary program shaped according to his or her own vision. With diverse goals, Gallatin students are often intellectual and professional pioneers, mapping new relationships among fields of knowledge. At the Gallatin School, students interested in critical disaster studies would draw from the educational resources of NYU’s graduate and professional schools and of New York City to design a program reflecting their specific academic and professional goals. Students could take courses that address disaster as well as many others throughout NYU. They would be encouraged to create independent studies with Professor Jacob Remes, the director of the Initiative for Critical Disaster Studies, and other disaster scholars at NYU.
Internships
NYU Emergency Management Internship Pipeline Program
With internships at the NYU Department of Public Safety, NYU Langone – Emergency Management, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, this program provides an opportunity for NYU graduate students to experience the diverse field of Emergency Management (EM) in a more holistic way. This program will help students understand the complexities, challenges, rewards, and lessons learned from each type of EM discipline. At the same time, participating organizations will work with a highly motivated, qualified, and exceptional candidate who displays a great interest in the field.
