Course Description

In this course, students will create music technologies and experiences, working individually and in teams. Topics to explore include emerging music tech trends, web/mobile musical experiences, and music-making principles with new media. Students will collaborate with an audience (e.g., students, parents, teachers) to design technology/experiences, iterating through prototyping and implementation. The semester ends with project presentations to a panel of educators, technologists, entrepreneurs, and designers for feedback.

Class Culture

This class is about making. Be ready to share your process every week.

We are a community of learners and engagement is expected in each class. Please don’t be scrolling on your computer or phone.

There will be specific assignments to be posted on your online Design Journal (personal blog). On this blog, you will make weekly entries reflecting on readings, share in-class and homework design projects. Journal will serve as your individual portfolio throughout the class.  Entries must be made each week.

Please be on time. If you are late this will alter your participation grade.

I’m normally available to chat after class, but happy to arrange office hours too.

Students must not miss more than 3 classes over the course of the semester.

If you feel your absence should be excused, please let me know in advance (emergencies only!)
