Contribute to the music playlist. Here’s how:

  • Download Spotify.  (Note that Spotify Premium is not necessary, but there is a great student discount for it that may be worth it to you!)
  • Add the “Critical Race Theory” playlist to “My Library.”  It should show up in your library and among your other playlists now.
  • Using the desktop version OR the phone app version of Spotify (the web version won’t work for this), search for the song/soundscape/podcast/narration you want to add to the playlist.
  • Once you have identified the item you want to add, look toward the right-hand side of the screen for the three dots “…” and click on them.  A drop-down menu will appear that will allow you to choose “Add to Playlist,” which will reveal another drop-down menu of your playlists, including this one.
  • Add the item you want to contribute.
  • Voila!

Video

Contribute to the video playlist. Here’s how:

  • Click on the hyperlink that reads “video playlist” above.
  • You will be connected to YouTube via your NYU Gmail account.  A box titled “Critical Race Theory, Fall 2018” will appear.  Under the description of the playlist, you will see three buttons.  Choose “Save” to add this playlist to your library.  Once it’s added, click continue. 
  • If you are unsure of what you would like to add to the playlist at this point, you should begin by using the search box at the top of the screen to search for possibilities.
  • Once you have identified an item in this way and opened it, you should see a variety of information under the video.  This includes the title of the video, number of thumbs up and thumbs down, a share function, and an icon that looks like three horizontal lines and a “+.”  Choose that last icon and a drop-down menu will appear.  
  • To add the video to our collaborative video playlist, check the box next to “Critical Race Theory.”  The item will then appear on our playlist when you next visit it.
  • If you already identified an item you would like to add or are adding an item from your own collection, here is another way to add to the playlist from the playlist screen.  In the bottom right corner of the box titled “Critical Race Theory, Fall 2018”, you should see a button called “Add Videos.”  Click on it and a pop-up box will appear.
  • At the top of the box are three tabs labeled “Video Search,” “URL,” and “Your YouTube Videos.”  Here you can search for a video, add the URL for a video you have identified elsewhere (on a web page, Vimeo, or some other site), or add a YouTube video you’ve already made.  Choose one of these and follow the instructions on the screen to add your item to the playlist.
  • Voila!
