Conferences and research opportunities

This page contains a set of links to major plasma physics and nuclear fusion conferences, workshops, and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. Some of the links are for past years but most of the conferences + workshops + summer schools run yearly, so it is easy to google the new website.

Undergraduate opportunities:

The Courant Institute has a nice list accessible for NYU students, as well as here.

  1. PFURO program
  2. SULI internships at a US DOE national lab
  3. Courant’s SURE program
  4. REU summer programs, same link as above Courant link, although these are very common programs across the country.

Workshops/summer schools/other programs for undergraduates:

  1. CRANE program
  2. PPPL summer school for early undergraduates
  3. PPPL 2023 Introduction to Fusion Energy and Plasma Physics Course
  4. Women in Physics (CUWIP) conferences

Graduating senior/master’s/PhD level opportunities:

Lots of good stuff (including much of what I list below) can be found at https://www.iter.org/education.

In order to go to the annual APS-DPP meeting, you need to register as a member of the DPP community: https://engage.aps.org/dpp/home. The weekly emails also often have post-doctoral opportunities.

  1. SULI internships at a US DOE national lab
  2. SCGSR PhD internships at a US DOE national lab
  3. Summer schools:
      1. https://gss.pppl.gov/2024/ (this years summer school will be on stellarators)
