The best way to grow as a composer is through having your works performed! There are numerous annual opportunities for you to do this. Here is an overview:
Curricular Opportunities
Composition Seminars
MPATC-GE 2027 and 2028 String Quartet I + II
- open to seniors as space allows
- Regular workshops with professional string players
- Performance and recording of a final string quartet composition
MPATC-GE 2021 Small ensemble and electronics (open to juniors and seniors)
- Open to juniors and seniors
- Performance and workshops by professional ensemble, focus on music that integrates electronics and acoustic instruments.
MPATC-GE 2029 Innovation
- Open to juniors and seniors
- Survey of recent approaches to composition from a creative perspective with an eye towards developing the student’s own ideas around compositional practice.
- Performance of electro-acoustic work
Composers Ensemble
- Open to all undergraduates
- Ensemble comprised of students in the class
- End of class performance and recording session
Mix Nouveau (listed as “improvisation”)
- Open to all undergraduates
- Form cohorts with instrumental performance majors
- Write and produce a concert of new works drawing from composers in the cohort
Tisch Composer/Choreographer class
- Open to all undergraduates, but by application
- Usually offered in the spring
- Up to 6 composers selected
- Final performance of a piece for music and dance

- This is a second year graduate student project but we will offer spots to upper level undergraduates composers as space allows.
- Concerts produced by the Undergraduate Composers’ Collective (find your own players)
Recording Sessions
Program sponsored time in the Dolan Studio for you to record your own projects. You can bring your own players to record your work. Student engineers will track the session.
