Laptop Sound | |
Locate the audio cable pictured above in front of the control desk. |
Ensure that the cable is plugged into the box mounted to the wall as shown. |
Plug the opposite end of the cable into your laptop or other device. |
On the control desk, locate the “audio switcher” as shown above. |
Select “Input 1” on the audio switcher on the control desk. |
Use the Genelec remote, or your device’s controls to adjust the playback volume. |
Live Sound | |
The main piece of equipment for live sound in room 404 is our Big Six Analog Mixer. It can be found on the control desk. |
The unit should remain powered on, but if it’s off, it can be turned on using the switch on the rear panel pictured above. |
In order to use the mixer with the room’s sound system, select “input 2” on the audio switcher (shown above). |
If you need to connect a microphone or other instruments to the mixer, the next step is to locate the “press box.” Its location is shown in the image above. |
You can connect microphones to the press box and mixer using the inputs 1-4 (labeled in red above.) You can connect instruments (like a guitar or keyboard) to inputs 5-8 of our press box (labeled in yellow above.) |
Inputs 1 – 4 use XLR cable, and inputs 5 – 8 use 1/4 inch cable. Inputs 5, 6, 7, and 8 are “stereo” which just means that 5 and 6 are linked together and are controlled by one “slider” on the mixer. 7 and 8 are also linked together. |
Adjust the gain using the knob shown above to an appropriate level for each input that you are using, (turn it so that the white line is at about 1:00 o’clock) |
Adjust the volume for each input using the individual channel sliders. |
Use the “Monitor” section to control the overall volume going to the speakers. |
To use the speakers at the front of the room, ensure that [MAIN] is selected as pictured above. |
Channels 1-4 have a three band EQ. An EQ (or equalizer) allows you to adjust the volume of the high, middle, and low frequencies of the sound. |
Engage the [IN] button to activate compression on the channel. Adjust the THRESHOLD knob to control when the compressor kicks in. |
Routing Audio from the Control Desk Mac |
|
You can play audio through the room’s sound system on the Mac desktop by using the mixer. |
The computer sends signal to stereo channel 9/10 shown above. Adjust the volume slider on the mixer to an appropriate volume. |
Adding Reverb | |
Each channel can be routed to the reverb effect pedal to the right of the mixer. Ensure that the light above the “active” button is lit. |
To use the reverb, first press the button circled above on the corresponding channel that you’d like to add reverb to. (Channel 1 pictured.) |
Next, adjust the knob circled above to an appropriate level. The further you turn this knob clockwise, the more signal you’ll send to the reverb. | Finally, press the [EXT 1] button and adjust the volume of the reverb to your desired level by turning the knob directly above it clockwise. |
