Sony a7III Quick-Start Guide

Here’s everything you need to know about getting started with the Sony a7III

Inserting the Battery and Memory Card:

    • Open the battery compartment located on the bottom of the body.
    • Make sure you use a compatible SONY NPFZ100 Battery. (this is a larger battery than the Sony a6400 and a7RII cameras require)
    • Insert a memory card in the slot located on the right-hand side of the camera (SDXC recommended)

Attaching a Lens:

  • Align the lens’s white dot with the camera’s white dot.
  • Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place.

Powering On:

    • Turn the switch to the “on” position located on the top right-hand side of the camera.

Choosing a Shooting Mode:

    • Turn the mode dial to select Auto, P (Program Auto), A (Aperture Priority), S (Shutter Priority), M (Manual), or Video.

Navigate to Format:

  • Use the control wheel to navigate to the Setup (toolbox icon) menu.
  • Scroll down to find the Format option.
  • *This will erase all footage on your memory card, so make sure it’s backed up*

Adjusting your Focus:

    • When in manual mode, use the outermost ring on the lens to adjust the focus of your image.
    • When in automatic focus mode, press the shutter button halfway to focus, and fully to capture the image.

Adjusting the Shutter Speed:

    • Use the wheel on the top right-hand side of the camera to adjust your shutter speed, the lower the number, the brighter your image will be.

Adjusting the Aperture:

    • Use the scroll wheel when the menu is closed to adjust your Aperture, the lower the number, the brighter the image.

Adjusting the ISO:

    • Press the scroll wheel on the right-hand side, (labeled ISO) to open the menu to adjust the amount of digital brightness added to your image. Use the scroll wheel to make your selection.
    • *Warning* ISO is useful in low-light scenarios, but will make your image grainy if too much is applied.

Taking a Photo:

    • Frame your shot using the LCD screen or electronic viewfinder.
    • Press the shutter button halfway to focus (when auto-focus is active,) and press fully to capture the image.

Recording a Video:
