CMT’s Math Program for Young Minds Will Return in Spring 2026!

Our Application Opens November 15th. The Deadline to Apply is December 15th.

Program Overview

CMT’s Math Program for Young Minds is a 13-week in-person program for mathematically talented middle school students in Grades 7-8. The program provides a mathematically rich environment to middle school students interested in mathematics, and is designed to encourage them to explore mathematical topics outside the school curriculum. In this program, selected students­ are introduced to undergraduate level math topics while building problem solving skills and abstract reasoning. Students will have a weekly lecture with a Courant faculty and Teaching Assistant. All sessions will be hands-on, interactive, and include lots of group work and problem solving activities.

Program Dates for Spring 2026

February 5 – May 7

Course Details

Class will meet in-person on Thursdays from 5pm – 6:30pm at the Courant Institute located at 251 Mercer Street. Students will also have the option of attending an online weekly recitation section to help them further explore the lecture material. Students who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion and an official NYU transcript. This is a non-credit, non-graded program.

Eligibility

Current middle school students in Grades 7 and 8 who have an interest in mathematics and are eager to learn advanced mathematical ideas are encouraged to apply. Attendance in the weekly Thursday evening lecture is required.

How to Apply

Our application will open on November 15th (check back then for the application link) and will close on December 15th. Applicants will need to provide a school transcript, a letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor, and write one math-related essay.

Decision letters will be sent in mid-January.

*Plan ahead! Applications will not be reviewed until all documents are received.

Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites for this program other than strong arithmetic skills and a love of math.

Tuition & Fees

The cost of the program is $1,250. NYU has an application fee of $50. Students in need of an application waiver may request one upon submission of the application.
