Student Tech Guide and IT Service Resources for the NYU Community

One of my ongoing priorities is to increase the benefits that our community gets from IT services. NYU has a robust IT landscape. However, the number of available services can make it complicated for people to discover a resource they may not be familiar with but could benefit from, or to find instructions and tutorials so they can fully leverage the IT services they use.

NYU’s decentralized nature has many advantages, but it can make effectively communicating and raising awareness of services a challenge. I’d like to highlight a few resources NYU IT provides that I think will be useful to you, your staff and the community we support.

  • Technology Guides: The Tech Guides for students, faculty, and staff showcase the most essential and most used IT services, with links to general information, how-tos, and support info.
  • NYU IT website: NYU IT’s website includes information on all IT services, as well as the NYU IT organization itself.
  • ServiceLink knowledge base: The knowledge base contains answers to many of the top IT service questions, including configuration and use instructions.

I hope that in the coming academic year, we can continue to build a stronger, more connected IT community. The majority of our community doesn’t know or want to know how we are organized. They just want IT to be useful and easy. One of the core pieces of accomplishing that is making sure people know where to find the info they need. Consider reviewing tech content that your school or unit has created to ensure the information is current, complete, and easy to find.

I hope the resources above help you, and I encourage you to share them with others.
