Recharging through Vacation Days

We’ve been dealing with a pandemic for over two years, and many of us are weary. We’ve picked up extra work, both to support NYU’s response and because some of our co-workers have left in the “Great Resignation.” That may be easing now, but we are facing inflation and a possible downturn in our economy. On top of that, there is a war in Europe. It’s enough to make anyone tired.

NYU needs you at your best. That is why you need to not only take a vacation but get the rest and recovery that you need from that vacation. We are all different, with different situations and different needs. It is important to know what you need and then do your best to give yourself that. There might be issues like screaming children, canceled flights, or thunderstorms that get in the way of your relaxation, but do your best to leave work behind. You have to do what works for you, but know that we want you to take care of yourself and come back ready to help make NYU even greater than it is.

Check out NYU’s Work Life & Wellness resources and keep an eye out for their Work Life newsletter. They provide many great tips (PDF) for making your vacation a real vacation, including planning your return so that you don’t undo the benefits of a vacation as soon as you’re back.
