New cybersecurity checklists for technologists, researchers, and travelers

In continuing support for elevating NYU’s cybersecurity readiness, I want to let you know about two new resources that have launched on the NYU IT website.

Role-Based Cybersecurity Checklists

We’ve launched a trio of cybersecurity checklists—one for everyone at NYU as well as one for technologists and IT professionals and one for researchers—that guides you through the core steps you should take now to improve your security protections.

Travel Safely with Technology

We’ve also relaunched Travel Safely with Technology to support NYU community members traveling for University business, though the advice is pretty good for all of us, even if the trip is just to the local coffee spot with Wi-Fi. Cybersecurity precautions are especially important when we travel internationally and may find ourselves subject to regulations that are more stringent than what we deal with at home.

I encourage you to take a look at both resources and share and discuss them with others. The more we focus on our cybersecurity practices, the easier it will be to turn them into second nature. As IT specialists, it’s imperative that we set an example for the rest of NYU.  My fear of clicking on a bad link, thus embarrassing myself to no end, keeps me diligent.  There is nothing wrong with a little paranoia when they really are out to get you!

If you have any thoughts on these, or anything else, please let me know what’s on your mind
