I recently had the honor of being interviewed by CIO TechWorld about my career, my journey from the military to higher education, and my goals at NYU. If you get the chance to read it you may find it helpful. I’m not a fan of self-promotion, but I think my story can be helpful in two ways. First, learning more about different paths to your own career goals. Second, the better you understand me, the easier it is for us to work together as a team.
The media tend to focus on one person when an organization is successful. It is easier to communicate than the reality. Years ago, I was in Washington to receive an award from the White House. A local radio show interviewed me and I told her that I was “just there to take the credit for all the hard work that my company had done.” She was surprised by my answer, but I truly believe that we are all a team, just with different roles to play. Mine is more visible than yours but without you we couldn’t accomplish what we do. I don’t succeed without the hard work and talent of everyone in our IT community. So when things like this happen, my first reaction is to say “thank you” to everyone here who made it happen. I am very fortunate to be here at NYU and work with you.
