I hope that the summer was good for you and that you were able to get done what you needed to at work—and that you had some time to relax. It looks like summer weather may still have a way to go, but fall activities are in full swing. Beth Davidovich has fully moved over to NYU IT as the Associate Vice President of the Institutional Solutions Group as of September 1st. She has been spanning Financial Operations & Treasury this summer to facilitate a smooth transition. I am thrilled to have Beth join us. She not only comes with a wealth of experience both within and outside of NYU, but her leadership ability is a strong addition to the NYU IT leadership team. We also start a new academic year with a new University president, Linda Mills.
In many ways, we’ll continue to do what we’ve always done, but even better. We will see some differences that will impact us. Keep striving to improve but also step back and think about where and what we can improve. When we do something that works, especially when we do it over and over, we tend not to think about why we do it or how we do it. We just get it done. Things change over time, we keep getting new work, but rarely are we ever told to stop doing something. Tasks that we routinely do are still important, and so thinking about how we can do them more efficiently can free up the time we need for new tasks. Whether you are a leader or an individual contributor, you should think about how we can do things better. Leverage your experience and ability to continually improve how we do things. Technology, especially AI, presents some great opportunities for us.
As we move into the new academic year there are a few projects I would like you to be aware of. Over the summer we updated the Student Technology Centers. Stop by if you have a chance. We’ve also made great progress in updating general-purpose classrooms, replacing beyond-lifecycle equipment and gaining some great capabilities in the process. Finally, our Google Storage Project continues. You will see more messages about this and will probably need to help some of your stakeholders deal with the move from unlimited storage to a portfolio of storage options.
