The NYU Climate Change Film Festival (the “Contest”) entry period commences at 12:00 am Eastern Daylight Time on April 1, 2025 and ends at 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time on April 15, 2025 (the “Contest Entry Period”). The Contest is sponsored by New York University, c/o Tisch School of the Arts, Collaborative Arts (“Sponsor”).
ELIGIBILITY:- This Contest is open to any individual who is 18 years or older, or, if the individual is a Canadian citizen, then the age of majority in their Canadian province or territory of residence at the time of entry, and (1) enrolled as a student at NYU (including its global sites and portal campuses) as of date of entry or (2) a graduate of NYU (including its global sites and portal campuses), or (3) enrolled as a student in, or is an alumnus of, an UArctic school in the locations listed below:

Employees of the Sponsor; Prize provider(s); any promotional companies or advertising agencies participating in the Contest and employees of their respective affiliates and subsidiaries; any persons involved in the creation, development, or implementation of this Contest; and any other persons or entities directly associated with this Contest and any members of their immediate families or households are ineligible to submit an Entry. Entries for the Contest must be received prior to the expiration of the Contest Entry Period. This Contest is void in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and wherever prohibited or restricted by law, and is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. By submitting an entry, entrants agree to abide by these Official Rules and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations that govern contests.
- The Sponsor is responsible for the processing of the personal data of the participants and will process the data of the participants and the
winner of the Contest in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation, hereinafter “GDPR”), the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, SC 2000, c5, and all other applicable personal data protection regulations.
The data collected during this Contest will be processed for the exclusive purpose of managing the Contest (validation of participation, checks, awarding of the prize, communication to the winner, etc.). Participants’ personal data will not be used for any other purpose, unless otherwise specified and accepted by the participant via a consent box.
The Sponsor may ultimately, based on the winner’s consent, process the winner’s data collected as part of the Contest (including by mentioning the winner’s name in the Sponsor materials, such as social media posts, articles or newsletters, and various film screenings) for use in/on any publicity support in connection with the Contest, without giving the winner any reward, right or benefit other than the award of the prize.
In accordance with the GDPR, participants may at any time and free of charge: access their data and request it in the form of a copy (which is easily usable and allows data transfer); request deletion of their data; amend inaccurate or incomplete data; request restricted use of their data; object to the processing of their data and, in particular, to processing for direct marketing purposes. To do so, please send an e-mail to gdpr-info@nyu.edu and pgt227@nyu.edu. The request will be processed as soon as possible and in any case within one month of receiving the request. In accordance with the GDPR, participants have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority if they believe that the processing of their data is unlawful.
- Entry into the Contest constitutes the participant’s consent to participate in the Contest. Your personal information will be stored on servers
located in the United States, and will be subject to the laws and authorities of the United States and Canada as well as Sponsor’s Digital Privacy Statement and the GDPR, where applicable. Participation in the Contest implies authorization to collect, process and use the data provided and to transfer such personal data to the United States for purposes of management of the Contest. Except where prohibited, participation in the Contest constitutes your consent to Sponsor’s use of your name, biographical information, email address and state of residence, and film submission for promotional purposes in any media without further payment or consideration.
Participants will be given an opportunity to consent to receive communications from the Sponsor and/or its affiliates. Consenting to receive such communications is optional and is not necessary to enter or win this Contest, nor will it increase or improve your chances of winning.
Sponsor may share your personal information with third parties who need access to this information to perform services on Sponsor’s behalf.
Neither the Sponsor nor its designated agent assumes responsibility for third parties’ failure to act in accordance with Sponsor’s instructions pertaining to the implementation of the Contest.

PRIZES/VALUES:
The Contest will award prizes to ten (10) winners, as follows:
- First place: one (1) $1,500 cash prize
- Second place: two (2) $750 cash prize
- Third place: three (3) $500 cash prize
- Honorable Mention: four (4) $250 cash prize
The Prizes are not transferable or assignable, or redeemable for any other consideration, and no substitutions will be allowed except by Sponsor, which reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value or nature if advertised prize is not available. The prize will be awarded in US currency. The Sponsor is not responsible for dividing any Prize among multiple collaborators associated with an Entry; the case prize amount is granted to a specific Entry, without regard to the number of collaborators. The Prize winners are responsible for compliance with all applicable foreign, federal, state, and/or local laws and regulations, including, without limitation, the payment of all applicable taxes. The Sponsor reserves the right to designate additional winners and distribute additional prizes for each category listed above in the event of a tie for the winner.
The contact information provided at the time of Entry will be used to notify each potential winner. Potential winners are required to respond to the Sponsor’s outreach regarding the prize within ten (10) calendar days. If a potential winner does not reply within ten (10) calendar days, or if an Entrant is otherwise found to be ineligible or cannot accept or receive the prize for any reason, the corresponding potential prize winner with forfeit the prize. The Sponsor reserves the right to grant the prize to another individual or to not provide the prize to any other Entrant.
HOW TO ENTER:
You may enter the Contest by following the instructions available at https://wp.nyu.edu/cff/, during the Contest Entry Period.
An Entrant may submit multiple Entries and may collaborate on Entries with other Entrants. There is no limit on the number of Entries that can be submitted by the same participant(s). Each Entrant contributing to an Entry is bound by these rules. Sole authorship is not required and collaborations are accepted. The credited director, writer, editor, or cinematographer must be affiliated with NYU and/or a UArtic member institution as listed above. Such affiliation may be evidenced by an academic email address, or proof of enrollment or graduation from such institution. Entrants may be asked to provide proof of such affiliation.
Normal Internet access and usage charges imposed by your online carrier apply. Incomplete or late entries will be disqualified. An entry will be deemed to have been made by the “authorized account holder” of the email address utilized at the time the entry is made. For purposes herein, the “authorized account holder” refers to the person assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses. Sponsor is not responsible for transmission and/or computer error. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entry if, in its sole judgment a participant has not complied with the rules or has attempted to disrupt the operation of the Contest or violated any applicable law or NYU Policy. For the avoidance of doubt, acceptance of entries or submissions will not be deemed to waive any provisions of these Official Rules, and the entrant may subsequently be disqualified.
Entries must comply with all applicable file specifications. Allowable formats include mov, wmv, avi, mp4 (h264), mkv, with quality no lower than 1080p. Each submission must be between one and three minutes long and not have been previously published on any public video or social media platform.. Any non-English foreign-language Entries must be subtitled in English. All Entries must be submitted via Qualtrics link provided on the official webpage for the Contest.
Odds: Contest winners are determined based on the below judging criteria. Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest Entry Period.
Entries must be entrant’s own original work and owned solely and exclusively by entrant, must not infringe on, misappropriate or otherwise violate any third-party rights (including but not limited to copyright, trademark, rights of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right), all music utilized should be royalty free or original music, and the Entries may not contain any libelous or defamatory material. If necessary, the Entrant must secure any necessary rights to make an adaptation based on another person’s life or upon a book or other underlying work. Further, the Entrant must submit actor/model releases for any individual included in their submission. Entrant agrees to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Sponsor and its affiliates and subsidiaries, and their respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees and agents from any losses, damages, or expenses arising from or in connection with infringement, misappropriation or violation of any third party rights. An Entry that does not comply with entry guidelines will be deemed void and of no effect.
Each entrant agrees and acknowledges that Sponsor will have the irrevocable, royalty-free, fully paid-up worldwide, perpetual right (and if necessary, license) to edit, re-edit, adapt, modify, reproduce, promote, distribute create derivative works and otherwise use each entrant’s entry submission and related materials in any way it sees fit and in any form or media whether now or hereafter known or developed. Entrant hereby gives Sponsor and its agents and assignees, full permission and authority to use, publish and display the submission, as well as entrant’s (and any other person included in the submission) name, voice and photograph or other likeness for advertising or other related purposes in any media whether now or hereafter known or developed without additional compensation, and Entrant represents and warrants that they have procured all permissions necessary to grant Sponsor the permission and authority specified herein. Each Entrant agrees and acknowledges that Sponsor will screen each submission at an Awards ceremony on or about April 21, 2025, as well as other film screenings on various dates and in various countries and locations.
JUDGING:
All entries will be judged to determine the Prize winners. Entries will be judged between April 15, 2025 and April 18, 2025 by a jury determined at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. The judging criteria will include: (1) success of messaging about climate change; (2) call to action; (3) creativity and originality; (4) sound; (5) cinematography; and (6) editing. Each Entry will be provided a zero (0) through five (5) rating on each of the above criteria, with Prizes being awarded based on the highest numeric score. The jury retains the right to reject any Entry that depicts or otherwise includes inappropriate or offensive material, such as pornography, hate speech, violence, human rights violations, or any content deemed unlawful, as determined in the sole discretion of the jury.
Prize winners will be contacted via email and/or phone on or about April 21, 2025, using the contact information provided on the winner’s submission form. Potential Prize winners will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Waiver and Release prior to being announced as winners. Noncompliance with this requirement will result in disqualification and forfeiture of the Prize, and an alternate winner may be selected, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, in accordance with the procedures set forth above. The names of the winners of the Contest will be available after April 21, 2025. CAUTION:
Any attempt by any person to deliberately damage any web site or undermine legitimate operation of a contest may constitute a violation of criminal and civil laws. Any such tampering will also result in ineligibility to win a prize in the Contest.
CONDITIONS:
By participating in this Contest, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor, which are final in all matters relating to this Contest, and acknowledge compliance with these Official Rules. By participating in this Contest, each entrant hereby agrees to Sponsor’s collection and usage of the entrant’s personal information as set forth in the submission form.
Sponsor is in no way liable for any damage, loss, or injury resulting from computer malfunctions, misdirected or incomplete entries, or acceptance and use of a prize. Sponsor and its agents shall have no liability or responsibility for injuries, damages or liabilities caused or claimed to be caused by participation in the Contest or the use or misuse of a prize. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest should virus, bugs, or other causes beyond the control of Sponsor corrupt the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper play of the Contest and award the prizes from all eligible entries received prior to cancellation or suspension.
By entering this Contest, each entrant hereby voluntarily and irrevocably releases, holds harmless and agrees not to institute any claim against Sponsor or any of its affiliates and subsidiaries, and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents from any losses, damages, or expenses from any and all injuries, losses or damages of any kind arising from or in connection with, either directly or indirectly, (1) the awarding, acceptance, receipt, possession, use and/or misuse of any prize awarded herein; and/or (2) participation in the Contest or any prize-related activities.
Under no circumstances will any entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and each entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages, or any other damages, including attorneys’ fees, and entrant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.
By accepting a Prize, each winner grants Sponsor permission to use his or her name, likeness and other information provided by the winner for advertising and promotional purposes without any additional compensation (except where prohibited by law). By entering the Contest, entrants shall be deemed to have agreed to have their entry information made available to the Sponsor. The Contest is subject to these Official Rules. By entering the Contest, entrants and the winner agree to waive any right to claim any ambiguity, inequity or error in the Official Rules of the Contest, and/or of the Contest itself, and agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by all decisions of, and interpretations of these Official Rules by, the Contest judges, which in all respects shall be final and binding.
THE NEW YORK COURTS (STATE AND FEDERAL) SHALL HAVE SOLE JURISDICTION OF ANY CONTROVERSIES REGARDING THE CONTEST AND THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, WITHOUT REGARD TO CONFLICTS OF LAWS PRINCIPLES, SHALL GOVERN THE CONTEST. ENTRANTS WAIVE ANY AND ALL OBJECTIONS TO JURISDICTION AND VENUE IN THESE COURTS AND HEREBY SUBMIT TO THE JURISDICTION OF THOSE COURTS.
