The project I picked was 10,000 Cents by Aaron Koblin. It is a depiction of a US $100 bill created by thousands of drawings done by individuals through Amazon’s Mechanical Turk tool. Using a custom drawing tool, each participant created a tiny section of the bill without any knowledge of the overall project. The result was a recognizable $100 bill.
The main thing I admire about the project is how thousands of random people could unknowingly come together to make a piece of art. It makes me wonder what other art pieces like this could be created in the future. I also admire how almost all of the participants were able to create their drawings without any knowledge of the overall project. I admire this because even without this knowledge, they were able to create a recognizable piece of art.
I know that Amazon’s Mechanical Turk tool was used to gather the drawings, but I am not sure what the custom drawing tool was. I suspect it assigned each participant a section of the $100 bill, provided a picture of the section, and then asked them to recreate it using the drawing tool.
Koblin, the artist, wanted to create a picture of a $100 bill using random participants. Overall, he achieved this goal.
