Which features of infant learning and experiences are universal across cultural communities, and which are unique? We examine the behaviors and interactions of infants and caregivers from different cultural communities within the United States (Latinx, Chinese, White, and African American families) and from cultures around the globe (such as Tajikistan, China, and South Korea). Our twin goals emphasize specificity and universality in learning and development, as we aim to: (1) understand how unique cultural views and practices shape chldren’s everyday experiences and development, and (2) identify common principles of learning that cut across cultural communities.
