2017 CONFERENCE VIDEO – WATCH NOW
The Conferences on Human Capital Innovation in Technology & Analytics have been organized annually since 2012 by the Department of Technology Management and Innovation at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Each year these Conferences focus on a different critical issue, bringing together prominent thought leaders and experts who are at the cutting-edge of Human Capital Analytics (HCA) and related technologies.
This year’s critical issue is “Career Path Analytics: New Ways in Identifying & Implementing Passages to Organizational Success”. Leading firms are rethinking their approach to career paths, which are central in creating effective talent management systems to recruit, develop and retain hard to replace high performers and knowledge workers. With intense competition for top talent, effective career paths can play a critical role in an organization’s achieving its human capital strategic goals. In recognition of this importance, firms have begun to focus on innovative research, including human capital analytics, to better understand the dynamics of career paths and the interventions that can promote success.
This conference brings together thought leaders and experts from industry and academia to discuss new analytic approaches to career paths and how they can address the challenge of identifying and implementing passages to organizational success. The conference will be attended by executives, managers and professionals, who range from human capital analytics experts to HR generalists, as well as faculty and students from various disciplines. This is a valuable opportunity to network with leaders in this emerging field and learn about how cutting-edge career path analytics can help win the “War for Talent”.
This Conference is presented in cooperation with Poly-SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management student chapter) and IHRIM (International Association of Human Resource Information Management).

Analytics to Uncover the Drivers of Success in Organizations
Abstract: This presentation will review an approach that can be utilized to describe how employees move through organizations and are rewarded within them: Internal Labor Market (ILM) Analysis. The analysis begins with descriptive work to understand where employees sit in the organization, rates of movement, and associated rewards. The analysis then turns to predictive modeling to understand (1) the attributes and experiences of employees that are linked to career mobility and (2) how such mobility figures into the value proposition. The analysis is intended to inform the alignment of programs to build, evolve, and motivate the desired workforce. The presentation will be supported by case studies.

How Cognitive Computing is Helping Employees Shape Their Careers
Abstract: Our world continues to change at blinding speed, and as the world changes, so does the talent market. Employees expect their work experience be consistent with their consumer experience – simple, engaging, and personalized. They also report that careers and career progression are their number one priority when selecting and staying with an employer. All of these trends are requiring employers to take a new approach to careers. This presentation will address how IBM is reinventing the career experience by infusing cognitive computing in every part of the employee career journey.

Changing Skills and Training along the Career Path: Machine learning applications
Abstract: Skills evolve in the modern economy, so a successful career acquires new skills every few years.
Moreover, the promotion within a company depends not only on individual but also on collocation with colleagues. IBM analytics utilizes machine learning to address lifelong skill transition, training, and colocation. Some of the questions addressed include the following:
1. What skills are similar for a feasible transition? If adjacent skills are in higher demand, then transition pays off.
2. What courses and training are recommended for an individual?
3. What are the best collocation with colleagues to expect a faster promotion rate?
