University of Iowa

After establishing the Brain and Spine Scholars program at NYU in 2024, we have since expanded to the University of Iowa! Our Iowa team proudly supports University of Iowa’s STEM Education Program, bringing our mission of accessible neuroscience education to local students.

Our Iowa chapter’s neuroscience lectures focus on growth mindset, careers in neuroscience, and the diverse ways researchers study the brain. These interactive talks introduce students to core neuroscience concepts while highlighting the importance of perseverance, curiosity, and creativity in science.

Through the University of Iowa STEM Education coordinators, students from local middle schools visit the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for a day every month to explore a range of healthcare careers. From learning how to take vitals to discovering the concept of neuroplasticity, we connect classroom science to real-world experiences.

Our goal is to make each session interactive, memorable, and personally meaningful—showing students how neuroscience connects to their own interests, whether that’s sports, art, or helping others.
