Assistant Professor of Chemistry
(he/him)
Jonas grew up in Hamm, Germany, and received his B.S. degree from the University of Münster in 2012 conducting undergraduate research with Prof. Frank Glorius. He earned his M.S. degree in 2014 from the University of Münster pursuing research with Prof. Tobias Ritter at Harvard University and master’s thesis projects in the Glorius group. Jonas then joined the Ritter group at Harvard University for his graduate studies and moved with the lab to the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung where he obtained his PhD in 2019. In 2020, Jonas joined Prof. Jeffrey R. Long’s group at the University of California, Berkeley as a postdoctoral fellow. In January 2025, Jonas will start his appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at New York University. Research in the Börgel Lab will focus on sustainable method development and catalysis for chemical synthesis harnessing the beneficial properties of porous materials for reactive species characterization and selectivity control.
