Recording of live event – Building Momentum: A New Future For Construction Recording
What trends are accelerating innovation in the Construction Industry today?
During the construction phase, positive disruption is taking place through increased collaboration and efficiency via the use of building information modeling (BIM) and monitoring technology. Machine learning, which helps turn raw data into usable information and insights, is a potential game-changer in terms of reducing the risk of defects. The use of virtual technology and offsite construction will be important in improving efficiency and safety outcomes.
What is actually happening as a result of the trends being accelerated?
Some of the most advanced deployments of construction technology (ConTech) such as offsite construction use ‘digital twins’ to help enhance safety and drive efficiencies. Digital twins are virtual replicas of physical spaces that property managers can use to simulate things such as vacant indoor environments before people return to them en masse—are surging in use in real estate and other industries during the pandemic. Other technologies such as smart sensors and building materials are designed to improve end-user experience and environmental performance.
Advice to the Next Generation
Mariel Ebrahimi, CEO of DisruptCRE, encouraged students to seek out mentorship to provide valuable context to match your fresh perspective. Roger Krulak, CEO of FullStack Modular, encouraged viewers to take risks and be open-minded. He enjoys working with founders and investors to test new ideas and emphasized collaboration is one of the most exciting aspects of his work. Stefan, Head of Analytics at Midwood Investment & Development, concluded the discussion with, “Let’s just say you’re in the right place at the right time. It’s always exciting to be at the tipping point of a major change.”
