As the year ends, the REISA Book Club would like to thank everyone for participating in meetings and following along with us. The highlights of this semester were the two final books: Risk Game by Francis Greenburger and Saving Stuyvesant Town by Dan Garodnick.
Mr. Greenburger, one of the most prominent real estate executives in New York, joined us by zoom. He discussed his long career, his investment philosophy and his activism. Mr. Greenburger has a unique view of risk and attempts to view it economically. He does this with the help of his team, and he emphasizes the importance of building a good team. Most importantly, Mr. Greenburger He has had a storied career in real estate but is a strong believer in community involvement. He encouraged students to get involved in the community and causes, and described his own passion for art, his passion for education and his involvement in advocating for criminal justice reform. He described his own involvement with his mentors, and encouraged students to network and build mentor mentee relationships.
Dan Garodnick, a former New York City Councilman from the east side of Manhattan, was our final speaker. Mr. Garodnick represented the area around Stuy Town during the entirety of the Stuy Town saga. He described how he found out about the sale, and what it meant for him and the other residents and how it impacted their lives. Mr. Garodnick and the other residents took the initiative and actually put together a bid to purchase the complex.
There were dozens of takeaways from these books and our meetings. Thank you to Professors Korologos, Kwatinetz and Jones for moderating the discussions and to the students for joining us. A special thank you to our faculty advisors, Professor Korologos and Professor Srivastava, to Dean Chandan and his team, to the REISA Exec Board and our speakers for making this a great year.
