Christine JiMin Park
Christine JiMin Park is a New York and Seoul based artist. Through a blend of paintings, sculptures, and installations, she investigates both the physical and psychological movements and their effects on our perceptions of space and time in the context of memory. Taking the Debordian theory of psychogeography as a starting point, she puts an emphasis on studying the way we define and depict space and how that controls our understanding of the surroundings. Through the constant action of packing and unpacking, she rummages through her personal memories and creates multi-dimensional narratives to reflect upon her itinerant existence and to navigate across the issues of cross-cultural transformation as well as the vanishing ways of life. Through a repeated process of tracking, recording, and untangling the accounts of relocation, her interdisciplinary work unites memories of the past, both personal and collective experiences of migration, to confront questions of identity, displacement, and cultural hegemony.
