A “Web-based” Narration

This is a narration focused on “web design”. It is messy and seems so amateur at first sight, which seems against the design principles. However, the internet is once full of amateur websites like this. They have lots of under-construction signs, starry night backgrounds, and playful decorations arranged freely. I want to use this design to remember the existence of amateur websites and how much joy they used to bring us while the Internet was boosting. Beyond that, I would like to question what the Internet should look like. Shall it be the professional garden that only clear and effective information survives? Or there’s another way round, the Internet is a place for communication, exploring, and surfing

The generating part is related to your efforts in wandering and exploring the website. I will introduce them in three parts.

The first part is the loop narrated Random Diary(Groundhog Day). The website documents my thoughts on studying statistics and whether randomness exists or they could be calculated. If you look closely, you will find the two answers are titled “Stop Telling God what to do” and “God do not play dice”, which are related to Bohr- Einstein debates. They are arguing the explanation of quantum entanglement. Einstein believes that randomness or uncertainty is not a good way to study scientific events (God do not play dice) while Bohr disagrees (Stop Telling God what to do). If you notice that, you may think that the girl is probably into some scientific magazines.

The second part is the clickable Titanic news, it appears as a poster. However, if you examine it closely, you may find a small line of complaints. Combining the information in the news title, you might guess my parents went on a date to watch Titanic and left me at home during Valentine’s Day.

Besides, the picture book is clickable, the book is named “Guess How Much I Love You.” But you may find a disappointing “No, I don’t” after clicking it. Don’t be sad… If you try to select all, you may find another line…

All the other elements feature in popular ringtones, inventories, and newspapers in the 90s, and some pictures of my childhood life or fantasy. From the whole design of the websites, the visitors may gradually generate a picture of its author… Despite that, the visitors might reconstruct another me who grew up in the 1990s through this diary, I actually born after the 2000s. I think this is also an interesting strategy in narration as well: Everything could be biased by a great storyteller, and the extent of generating a story/ figure is probably also related to the audience’s interest in discovering.
