B.Concept

The hand and foot are the extremities, which means they are the end of our body, but since they are our extremities, they have lots of neurons, and we could use them to directly touch and feel lots of things.

However, we can’t deny that we still have lots of things we can’t touch, even feel directly. When we touch something, it’s actually the beginning of the disintegration of our thoughts, imaginations, and our dreams. For instance, make a poem into a video.

But what if our touch, our direct feeling fades? About black, white, and grey these primary colors, what if our world lost its color? How would you define red or blue then? Then how do you feel this world? How do you define consciousness? Because actually, technology is gradually replacing us to do all these things. ( Like to store the color into numbers)

Also, these fragment hands and feet also symbolized the deconstruction and destruction of the human body, it actually contains a concept of “Not Existing”, a wish for a weightless(无牵无挂) life.

Additionally, “手足” has a very deep meaning of the Chinese culture, we say “手足相残”  “手足连心”, as “手足” refers to brothers, which indicate an unbreakable bond between a family, however as the disintegration of traditional society, now we don’t take care more like “手足”, and seldom been treated as a unit of a family or clan, and more to individuals, but we could see that people are becoming more distant with each other and this curious me that if there is any bond beyond human that could make us a unity? Or rather, is there existing “solidarity”?

C. Process

  1. Create a dark room and print the word in the papers, close my eyes and use the compasses to do the cutting, use the glue to fix it in a certain situation,s and use the light and shot it. ( For the pieces, I glued them too)
  2. Use the same strategies as the first one, and change the light and the color in the photoshop to match them together.
  3. For the PS part, I add some pieces of the scrapper on it and adjust the light, the saturation level, and the color setting to make it more acordinate with each other.

The most significant step is that developing the idea of making these links and contraction with each other, and also, I didn’t have the graver, so I use the compass, and also, there’s no darkroom and so I use the 17F in the dorm and the exit of the AB as the darkroom.

D. Conclusion

If I have more time I would try the knolling, place something more linked with each other.
