to create something that would be able to live its own live by itself
I would describe Marc Newson as a philomath (/ˈfɪləmæθ/), a lover of learning and studying. From the interview he mentioned “push the boundary” more than one time and then he also explain that “it is about creating things so at the end of the process, I HAVE LEARNED HOT TO DO IT, SO MY BODY OF KNOWLEDGE IS MUCH GREATER.” He is a long life learner who value experience and knowledge. He also mentioned that “the next time I do something, I know just a little bit more.” He is curious and eager to push the boundary to learn more and more.

SIMILAR or DISSIMILAR
Philippe Starck, James Dyson, and Marc Newson
In one hand, I found that three of these gifted designers are trying to improve something. Philippe Starck is trying to improve one’s life, James Dyson is trying to improve the technology to work the best in the industry, and Marc Newson is trying to improve his knowledge and techniques. They strive to be better and better because they are curious. They put their curiosity into action and done a lot of prototyping and learn from their success and mistakes.
On the other hand, their dissimilarities are on their approach to disrupt the industry. Philippe’s approach to create a wonderful design is to understand himself and the nature of the brain, creativity comes from management of concentration (that is why he decided to live with no electricity and others unique ways of living), John Dyson’s approach is to have the technical improvement so that it creates a true innovation, and Marc Newson’s approach is something organic(color, pattern) from the materials, process, and techniques while still pushing the boundaries to create something out of the box.
