everything needs generosity
‘How can I help my friend to be better?’ ‘The effect of the product on the society is more important than the product’ ‘to be USEFUL.’ Although Philippe Starck views things a little differently from others, he proves that his ‘techniques’ work and impactful. He is authentic and different, qualities that make him unique. The way he lives teaches us how managing our concentration can spark creativity, moreover, how to understand yourself and trust the nature of your brain.
From the interview, it says a lot about how Starck see design as a tool to promote his goal which is to make a better rope and pass the rope to the next generation. He has been making things that create impact which is align with the better rope and he himself is a legend in the design industry, which make him an inspiration for the next generation.
Moving on to his designs, I was trying to put his design mindset when I looked through his website. Here are some designs that catch my attention:
to be useful
This product is align with Starck’s quote on the interview “to be useful”. Babies needs A LOT of stuff, especially newborns, and you need a handy place to put all their nappies, wipes, dummies, bottles etc, etc…..even on those short trips to the supermarket. Not only this ‘Weekend Diaperbag’ solves the problem above but also helps moms to put their baby anywhere, anytime.
On the other hand, I don’t find this ‘Boxinbox’ aesthetically appealing and useful. The color combination and the height of the short one is not useful. First of all, the material is so fragile, and it is hard to clean the inside of the storage. It is going to gather all the dust, but at the same time, it is hard to clean. Moreover, one needs to be very careful to clean or even when placing things above the glass.
